Cooking Challenge &

Table Tennis

Introduction - Cooking Challenge
Vietnamese Summer Rolls Competition, also known as fresh spring rolls, this traditional Vietnamese dish is a tasty and healthy alternative to the more well know Chinese version. You can plan your shopping accordingly with juicy prawns or sliced belly pork, or look at what you have in the fridge and cupboard and adapt accordingly.

Today, your challenge is to learn to roll these little beauties and then as a team present a plate or board with 3 rolls, dipping sauce and garnishes. Points will be awarded by the judge on the quality of the rolling, the originality and quality of the design and presentation including the garnishes. Our chef will demonstrate the rolling and some techniques and then your team will have 30 minutes to master the techniques and compile your plate. You then have 10 minutes to tidy your work space and display your creation.

As work space at Food Sorcery is limited teams will also be competing in a table tennis competition too.

Registration
Teams must register at Food Sorcery at 5:30pm ready for a 6:00pm start.

Introduction - Table Tennis
Players toss a coin at the start of each game. The winner can:

  • Elect to serve first or
  • Make his opponent serve first
Players in each team must be ranked 1-4 (1 being the best player). In a match teams will play 4 singles games against an opposing team. In order to beat your opposing team your players will need to win 3 or 4 out of the 4 single games to win the overall match against a team.

The aim of the game is simple; hit the ball over the net onto your opponent’s side. A point is won by you if your opponent is unable to return the ball to your side of the table (e.g. they miss the ball, they hit the ball but it misses your side of the table, or the ball hits the net), or if they hit the ball before it bounces on their side of the table.

  • You must play your opposing ranking number i.e Rank 1 plays Rank 1, Rank 2 plays Rank 2 etc
  • Each player has 2 serves each
  • The winner of a game is the first to 5 points (if it’s 4-4 next point wins)
  • The team who wins the most number of singles games overall against the opposing team will win the match and gain 5 points, whether they win 4 single games – 0 or 3 -1.
